Write-Up & Specs

We call this build “Tankdrop” and it is our 6th recreational vehicle built from scratch and our second teardrop. We are a husband and wife team who have been traveling whenever possible since we met 10+ years ago. I think we would both call ourselves sailors, with my profession primarily being boat building and design with a specialization in prototypes and one-offs. We started this camper build 9 months ago and in the interim we have started a small business which needs all of our time and money... which is why we are selling.

We designed and built the Tankdrop as our personal adventure trailer. We prioritized low maintenance, off-road capability and longevity/durability.  It is a fully welded aluminum structure. Being welded, there are no “seams” for water to leak into over time and no structural wood to rot if it did get in from an open hatch or a spill.

The Tankdrop was built marine grade: Lewmar roof hatch, Lewmar opening portlights, heavy EPDM gasketing on the doors, tinned wiring throughout, resettable waterproof main breakers and a true breaker panel. We used marine grade 5000 series aluminum on the entire exterior, so the Tankdrop never needs paint or polishing- just a hose rinse once in a while.

It’s fully off grid and self-sufficient with 450W of solar from 5 solar panels on separate controllers and a 400ah Lithium LifePO4 battery to power the fridge/freezer, lights, fans, running water, etc. It has a micro solar/battery powered air conditioner on board and while it’s not powerful enough to cool the entire interior in the middle of a Florida sunshiny day- it blows a nice cold breeze onto you when you lay down for bed. Coupled with the 2” of high density insulation throughout, you will find yourself sleeping comfortably whether it's hot or cold outside.

This camper fits into an average single garage stall and can be towed by most cars.
